TRINITY PARK PROJECTS Return to Main Trail Maps Page
Trinity Park Picnic Pavilions – Mayfest 2007 Chairman Marcia Buyers requested a grant of $25,000 from Streams and Valleys to underwrite the construction of 2 covered pavilions in Trinity Park. During Mayfest, bleachers are placed around each pavilion providing an excellent site to watch youngsters perform. The remainder of the year, with picnic tables installed, they provide an additional venue for families to gather in Fort Worth’s favorite park.

Kayak Clinics – 2007 marks the third summer that Streams and Valleys has hosted kayak clinics on the Trinity River. This year we have added advanced classes and even Moonlight River Trips to Sundance Square. Classes often fill up with participants from across the Metroplex, learning basic paddling skills in the calm waters of the Trinity. With a bit of experience join expert guides to course the waters of the Clear Fork to the dock below Sundance Square. Following dinner, participants return to their boats to glide around the confluence and back to Trinity Park, enjoying the view of the downtown skyline.

Mark Twain Bronze Statue – Generously donated by the Red Oak Foundation, a life-size bronze statue of Mark Twain was placed on a park bench in Trinity Park. Dedicated in June 2007, the Red Oak Foundation sought a visible site along our river to share their enthusiasm for the joy of reading. Sometimes startling, but always inviting, we see kids stopping to sit with Mr. Twain and read a page of his book.

Phyllis Tilley Pedestrian Bridge – An elegant pedestrian bridge which will connect the Trinity Park trails to the future Rotary Trailhead on Forest Park Drive is being designed by world-renown Boston architect Miguel Rosales. With funding provided by a $200,000 pledge from Streams and Valleys to complement federal grants and city bond funds, the bridge will be named in memory of our founder, Phyllis Jones Tilley. Set just upstream from the Lancaster Drive overpass, this bridge’s graceful curves complement the structure grandly looming above. Completion is scheduled for 2009- 2010. In addition, the Tarrant Regional Water District will be constructing a trail extension on the East Side of the river from the proposed Rotary Park trailhead to 5th Street.

Streams and Valleys is currently seeking contributions from the community to fulfill our goal. To learn more about donation levels and benefits, please contact Adelaide at the office at 817-926-0006 or streamsvalleys@charter.net.
